Thus Spoke Zarathustra

Kobunsha Classical New Translation Library, Volume I, 2010

About this book

Nietzsche's major work questions inherited morality and value through Zarathustra's declarations of the death of God and the Übermensch. Rather than a treatise explaining a system, it uses poetry, sermons, and stories to return the difficulty of making values to the reader.

What stayed with me

It did not teach me how to become a person without contradictions. Instead, it offered a way to treat feelings pulling in opposite directions not as noise to erase, but as something valuable.

Reading it alongside Kierkegaard's The Sickness Unto Death reveals the tension between not enclosing the self in a fixed definition and still living as oneself. It has stayed with me as a book whose meaning changes with the reader's current position, not one from which to extract a conclusion.
